Pfefferminze / Peppermint / Mentha piperita
The distinctive aromatic and delectable qualities of Peppermint makes it favorable to many, yet what is concealed from those many are its several, unconventional applications.
The perennial plant is native to Europe and is considered a hybrid mint, a cross between water mint and spearmint, and is currently cultivated in many regions of the world. The plant grows between 30 – 60 cm high with reddish purple and smooth square shaped stems. It is also characerized by short, oblong-ovate and serrat’d leaves with purple pinkish flowers that grow in the summer.
Channeling the lens to Peppermint’s applications, it is utilized in vasodilation, inhibition of respiration and also as a nasal decongestand and antitussive. The benefits extend even further to digestiv aid, antiemetic and antispasmodic applications, treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, cholesterol gallstones, headaches and anti-inflammatory, antimicrobical, analgesic and coolant herb.
