Hibiskus/Roselle/Hibiscus sabdariffa
Native to West Africa and more specifically, Angola Roselle is now cultivated in Egypt, Sudan, Thailand, Mexico and China as well as most tropical and sub- tropical areas. Popularly used in infusions and cold beveages, Roselle was traditionally consumed to lower blood pressure and as adiuretic and mild-laxative.
In addition to being incorporated in beverages and tea infusions, Roselle is used in a variety of delicious desserts such as puddings, jellies and ice cream. Roselle fiber is also cultivated and highly coveted in India for use in the textile industry. In the east indies and some parts of india, Roselle is considered a vegetable and is served in savory dishes with lentils, chicken and garlic.
With powerfil anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties, the cocktail of antioxidants and flavonoids present within Roselle has been documented to treat mild-respiratory ailments, maintain blood pressure and naturally blood boost the immune system.
