Kamille/Chamomile/Matricaria chamomilla
Chamomile is a flowering plant native to Europe, Northwest Asia and north Africa and was first documented in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics as a main ingredient in embalming oil and cosmetics. Due to the plants various medicinal and soothing properties, it was included in ancient Anglo-Saxon scripts as on oft he „Nine sacred herbs“ oft he Lacnunga. Naturalized in many temperate climates, Chamomile has been used since the middle ages by the Romans, Spaniards, Anglo-Saxon and Norsemen in brews, herbal infusions, incense, medicinal remedies and shampoos.
Known to soothe inflamed dermises, Chamomile is applied topically as a compress to reduce swelling and fight bacterial infections. When consumed, the plant is linked to a variety of medicinal benefits, including: calming stomach pains, inducing sleep, treating chest irritations and reducing menstrual cramps. The wound-healing properties of Chamomile have also been documented though conclusive results have yet tob e verifed by laboratory testing.
In modern medicine, the exposure of Chamomile to cancer cells has reduced cell viability in various human cancer cell lines and induced apoptosis of caner cells but not in normal cells at similar doses. This discovery cements the plants potent anti-cancer activity against prostate cancer.
