Kreuzkümmel / Cumin / Cuminum cyminum
Cumin is an important seed spice and one oft he earliest known minor species used by mankind. It is believed to be native to Egypt and Syria, Turkestan and the Eastern Mediterranean regions. The typical pleasant aroma given off by the seeds is due to their volatile oil content, of which the principal constituent is cuminoil (Cuminaldehyde).
Cumin has a long history dating back almost 5000 years tot he ancient Egyptian civilization, where it was used boh a a spice and as a perserving agent in mummification rituals. Cumin is even mentioned in the bible, both the old and the new testaments, where it was said that Cumin was used as a currency to pay „tithe“ to the priests.
Cumin oils have many health benefits, it aids in digestion, is rich in antiseptic properties, prevents the formation of excess gases, helps remove toxins from the body and it is also beneficial in treating diarrhea and cholera.
Cumin can also help with toning up muscles, tissue and skin as well as help maintain regular menstruation cycles and is effective in curing cinvulsions, anxiety and stress. It is even effective in curing colonic, intestinal and stomach infecitons.
